Recreating the look: Earthsea

Filed under: Creative Offerings — Rebecca @ 7:47 am

It may be my Amtgard background talking, but while watching The Legend of Earthsea tonight, I really wanted to make some of the garb. So much of it was beautiful and could easily be based off the Renaissance patterns currently available.

Too bad I’m not sewing anymore, nor am I near a sewing machine, nor do I have anywhere to wear such fabulous pieces.

Current personal projects

I’ve been slowly working over the past month on getting back into more creative work during my free time and thought I’d take a few minutes to share some of them with you.

On the Handcraft front, I’ve actually organized my project list and dropped it into Outlook. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be working on a couple of small seasonal pieces. Over Thanksgiving, I re-read some of the jewelry books and pamphlets I have around and was inspired to create a lovely necklace in Wild Wire and jade. I even made earrings to match it.

The books, in case you’re interested:

I have also put some jewelry I made for a craft fair last year up on Craigslist. With the holidays upon us, I’m hoping to sell some of it. Now that I have a job, I’m also re-considering opening an eBay store.

I am also starting to work on writing up instructions for various crafts I do. Right now, I’m focusing on basic patterns for friendship bracelets, and will gradually move on to more complex patterns. I’m looking for people to try out patterns for me, make sure they are correct and read easily.

On the graphics design front, I’m working on new designs for the CafePress shops. I am nearly finished with one, and will be working on the other one in the next week or so. Working on these designs has led me to start up a mental wish list.

On the web design front, I just launched Kirylin’s Voice. It’s still very much a work in progress, but I figured it could grow before the web’s eyes. Besides, it motivates me to work on it when I know there’s the possibility someone could look at it. Next week, I’m planning to give Tapestry Designs a face lift. Again, it will be a work in progress, but I’m still very excited.
